Hurricane Heroes started with a local South Floridian who wanted to combine lessons from the military, disaster response, and academia into a practical tool that could help people prepare for disasters.

Growing up in Fort Lauderdale, Austin Perry was exposed to hurricanes and recovery at a young age. Much of what the cards show comes from first-hand experiences and lessons learned in his own community. After four years in the Marine infantry, he wanted to keep serving in the best way he knew how: by developing tools and strategies that people of all ages and abilities could use to put themselves in a stronger position to handle and recover from natural disasters.

That effort became RPQ Chaos Engineering, the Aces High Framework, and eventually the Hurricane Heroes deck.
